Note: This guide is for MacBooks purchased through PB Tech or Imagetext via their St. Cuthbert's purchasing portal. If you purchased your device from another source, you will need to bring it in to ILT to get it set up.
Congratulations on your new MacBook!
To learn how to set it up, you can either watch the video below, or if you'd prefer, follow the steps below the video. The whole process takes about 5 minutes.
1. First, you need to reset your password. You can do this by going to changepassword.stcuthberts.school.nz
2. Next, take your Mac out of the box and turn it on. Once it has finished turning on, you should see a screen asking you to choose your country. Select New Zealand and then click Continue.
3. The screen should change to asking you to choose a preferred language, input source & dictation language. You can click continue here also. In NZ we use the US keyboard layout.
4. Next, choose a Wi-Fi network. You will need this to complete some of the later steps. If you do not have access to a Wi-Fi network, you can connect to your phone's personal hotspot, but do not set up your Mac without internet access as it can cause some things not to be setup correctly.
5. You should now see the Remote Management screen. Click Continue, then when prompted, login with your College username and password. If you have not reset this yet, you will need to do so first.
6. Next, you will have the options to setup Data Privacy, Apple ID & then agree to the macOS terms & conditions. These are relatively straightforward. Data Privacy & the terms & conditions require acceptance to continue, but Apple ID can be either setup now or later.
7. The next step is to setup a user account you will use to login to the Mac. It will automatically populate with the information you filled in earlier in the Remote Management section, but you don't have to use those credentials.
The next steps are all up to you how you configure them. These are things such as analytics, screen time & the look & feel of macOS.
